The Ulster County Board of Elections provides voters with guidance on how to participate in Early Voting
Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) announces service to early voting sites
KINGSTON, N.Y. – Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan shared plans today outlining Ulster County’s Early Voting and Election Day plans. Starting this Saturday and continuing for nine days – October 24th – November 1st, voters can vote at one of any five polling sites around Ulster County. Hours of operation vary but include a mix of day, evening, and weekend hours. You can vote in an early voting center in the county where you live. You can visit any of the Early Voting locations around the county (Woodstock, Kingston, New Paltz, Lloyd, or Ellenville) that is convenient, but if you wait to vote in person on Election Day November 3rd you must visit your designated polling site.
The Ulster County Board of Elections has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of our voters and our poll inspectors that serve the public that includes training, social distancing, and personal protective equipment. Early Voting allows for shorter wait times and lines during the nine days of Early Voting, and also on Election Day. Additionally, the Ulster County Board of Elections has taken steps concerning safety at the polls. The Board of Elections is working with local law enforcement, including with the Sheriff’s Department to provide support to poll sites if needed.
“I strongly urge eligible voters to take advantage of early voting. Given the challenges of COVID-19, voting early is a safe and reliable way to ensure voters can participate in this election,” County Executive Pat Ryan said.
Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) will be providing transportation to 4 of 5 early voting. In addition, UCAT is expanding its service to Pre-COVID-19 reductions to include New Paltz LOOP Sunday service for the duration of early voting.
Monday-Saturday (no Sunday service for Oct. 24, Oct. 26-31 Early Voting dates)
Ellenville Library: Regularly scheduled EU route provides service.
Woodstock Community Center: Regularly scheduled Z route provides service. Riders will be dropped off directly at Center upon request.
Kingston Midtown Neighborhood Center: Regularly scheduled Blue route provides service. This route is free to riders.
Saturday, October 24th to Sunday, November 1st
New Paltz Community Center: NPL Route will deviate to include the Community Center throughout the 9 days of early voting except for two weekday rush hour loops (4:30 pm and 5:00 pm LOOPs will not service the Center).
Voters can also continue to vote by mail. You must apply online, postmark, email (absentees@co.ulster.ny.us (link sends e-mail)), or fax your completed absentee ballot application must be received at the local Ulster County Board of Elections by close of business on October 27, or if sending by mail, on or before October 27. After that, voters can continue to apply for absentees in person at the Ulster County Board through the close of business on Monday, November 2. Voters may also vote in person from October 24th to November 1st at our early voting centers. See our Absentee Balloting page for all the details.
For voters concerned about exposure to COVID-19 they should select “temporary illness or physical disability” as the reason for requesting the absentee ballot. Your completed absentee ballot application must be returned to the Ulster County Board of Elections as soon as possible.
